While we’ve had some respite from the rain and were looking forward to a full fixture programme, frost decided to pay a visit instead.  A number of games were able to go ahead, but equally quite a few had to be postponed.

In the Tesco cup St Albans edged a close encounter with Llantwit Major by two goals to one.  Rhiwbina’s game with Cascade was called off by the referee because of the poor state of the pitch as a result of the frost.

In the A Division Maindy achieved what they’ve been threatening to do for some time.  They overwhelmed a weakened Pentwyn side with a second-half tally of seven goals to run out 8-1 winners.

In the B Division league leaders Butetown achieved a comprehensive 8-2 victory over Radyr and second-placed Caerau maintain their place in second with a 6-0 win over Marlboro White.  In the C Division, runaway leaders Marshfield maintained their position as the league’s dominant force by inflicting Marlboro Red’s first defeat of the season with an 8-1 win.

Some unexpectedly big victories/defeats today.  It looks as though quite a few teams were carrying a New Year hangover, while others were making good their New Year’s resolutions.

14 January 2012, U14s football fixtures

The weather this week is looking a little more promising, so with a bit of luck we will have a full programme of football fixtures and  will be able to get 2012 underway.

This weekend sees Rhiwbina Black and St Albans taking part in the first round of the Tesco Cup.  Rhiwbina are at home to Cascade, while St Albans travel to Llantwit Major for their game.  In the A Division, while each of the games will not impact on the top two places, they will begin to establish a better sense of the pecking order for the rest of the teams.

In the B Division league leaders Butetown are away to Radyr and second-placed Caerau are at home to Marlboro White.  In the C Division, runaway leaders Marshfield are up against second-place Marlboro Red, but who have five games in hand. And they remain the C Division’s only team not to have dropped a point this season.  This could well be the league game of the day!
