Marlboro Black 10 – 3 Llanedeyrn
In tonight’s Division A match Marlboro Black posted a comprehensive 10-3 victory over Llanedeyrn with an impressive team display to move back into third position. They are now one point ahead of Whitchurch having played the same number of games. This battle for third place looks as though it will go right down to the wire.
Pentyrch Rangers 5 – 1 Urdd
In Division B Pentyrch played Urdd who were high in self belief following an impressive win against second place Caerau Ely. Urdd got off to a great start going into a 1 – 0 lead and for a while it looked as though they could spring another surprise. But Pentyrch steadied themselves and managed to pull back an equaliser. It stayed that way until halftime. For the first twenty minutes of the second half Pentyrch hit a purple patch, dominating play and peppering the Urdd goal. But some great keeping, the woodwork and some errant shooting kept the score at 1 – 1. But it was only a matter of time. Pentyrch established a 3 – 1 lead with two excellently taken goals. As Urdd worked hard to get back into the game , Pentyrch caught them twice more on the break with two superb goals that turned defence into attack in seconds. A disappointing result for Urdd, but one thing is for certain: they are having a profound effect on who will finish runners up in the B Division this year. Pentyrch are now just three points behind Caerau. And Pentyrch’s next match? Caerau Ely at home. Whatever the outcome, the B division has been a great advert for the ever improving level of football in the Cardiff & District league.
